Our Beginner Program is designed for students of all ages who are new to martial arts and looking for a safe, effective way to improve their fitness, confidence, and personal safety. Training focuses on low-impact movements that protect joints while building strength, flexibility, coordination, and cardiovascular health. Students learn practical self-defense skills alongside important life skills such as focus, respect, and self-discipline, all within a positive, non-competitive environment. No prior experience is required, and each student progresses at their own pace with supportive instruction that encourages long-term success and lifelong health.

The Beginner Program at Choi Kwang Do of North Florida provides a structured introduction to martial arts training with an emphasis on safety, personal growth, and long-term health. What is Choi Kwang Do?
Choi Kwang Do is a modern, science-based martial art designed to improve health, confidence, and self-defense skills without the injuries commonly found in competitive martial arts. It emphasizes natural movement, joint safety, and lifelong training.
Is Choi Kwang Do safe for kids and adults?
Yes. Safety is our top priority. Choi Kwang Do uses low-impact techniques that protect the knees, hips, shoulders, and back. Students train in a controlled, supportive environment appropriate for children, teens, adults, and seniors.
Do students compete or spar?
No. We are a non-competitive martial arts school. There is no head-to-head fighting or pressure to “win.” Instead, students are evaluated individually through our Showcase of Excellence, which focuses on personal improvement and confidence.
What ages can train?
We offer programs for: Tiny Tigers (ages 4–6), Kids (ages 7–14), Teens & Adults (ages 14+). Many families train together, and students can continue well into adulthood.

Does my child need experience to start?
Not at all. No prior martial arts experience is required. Most of our students begin as complete beginners, and classes are structured so new students feel confident and supported from day one.

What should I expect in the first class?

Unlike sport-based martial arts, Choi Kwang Do focuses on long-term health and real-world self-defense. We avoid high-risk movements, excessive impact, and ego-driven training. Our goal is progress, not trophies.
